Sunday is fleamarket day. Close to the hostel (500 m)you find the Arkonaplatz Fleamarket and the famous Mauerpark fleamarket. You don´t want to buy something – no problem you first of all go there to see all kind of urban subjects with hangover and even sober ones. Berliners go there – you should as well.


It´s f*cking cold outside so let´s all go to the Hamam to enjoy a really nice turkish bath and warm up a little…

Hamam is a bathing ceremony of the cleansing of the body and soul. Relaxation and communication in a warm and pleasant atmosphere, are key elements of the Hamam culture. Here women from different cultures and walks of life work and meet.

Long Night of Museums in Berlin, January 30th, 2010 – 6pm to 2 am

This Saturday, long night of museums. Take this opportunity to visit many museums in one night!

On almost 400 square kilometres – between Glienicke Palace, the Museum at the Waterplant Friedrichshagen and the Museum of Local History Reinickendorf – more than 100 museums and cultural institutions are giving access to their exhibitions, collections and art objects throughout the night, enriched by a variety of events.
There will also be concerts, readings, theatricals and much more.

The Kombiticket valid in all participating institutions (from 6pm) as well as busses, suburban railways and undergrounds of the Berlin network (ABC) from Saturday, 30th January 2010, 3pm until Sunday, January 31st 2010, 5am

• Kombiticket: 15 Euro, reduced 10 Euro
• Children until the age of 12 have free entrance.

Bus shuttles make sure everyone can reach the participating museums and cultural institutions comfortably.
You can either choose one out of 5 different routes with a fixed program or make your own route through this truly special event.

Detailed program leaflets as well as the combination ticket, which includes the entrance fee and the shuttle ticket, (15 €, kids until 12 free) are available in all the participating museums, at box offices around town, at MD Berlin and online.


Seven museums are reachable by foot within the radius of Kulturforum Potsdamer Platz. Behind the Piazzetta the Picture Gallery, Library of the Arts, Copper Engraving and the Museum of Decorative Arts are located. Passing the St. Mathew church, which functions as a concert hall during this Long Night, one reaches the New National Gallery and opposite the Latin-American Institute. Northerly, behind Kammermusiksaal and Philharmonic Orchestra, is hiding the Museum of Musical Instruments. Directly at Potsdamer Platz, the Museum of Film and Television is located which is only a short walk away. The museum is located next to the first bus stop of route 1 and 2 which also serve the Martin-Gropius-Bau.
The first bus stop of route 4 in direction West is the Shell-Haus GASAG, which is also easy reachable by foot.

30th januar.the long night of museums. Get a pass par tout ticket and visit as many museums as you can at the most extraordinary time of the day, at night. Count on special exhibitions, concerts, live performances etc.etc.

11th-21st of Februar Berlinale, International Filmfestival. The Festival celebrates its 60th anniversary. Up to 400 different movies are shown! At potsdamer platz. Get your tickets in advance.

28th of march the 30th Berlin Half Marathon takes place. The  Berlin Half Marathon is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a fabulous party. Over 25,000 runners from 85 countries participated in the last sightseeing tour of Berlin, a course that cannot be beat. The mix of live music, artists, and attractions is drawing more and more spectators to the course. And the Berlin streets are fast! That is not only demonstrated by the top runners with numerous times under the magic one-hour limit, but also through the many personal bests in the ever-growing field of participants.

21-24th of may Carneval of Cultures. Every year the diversity of many different cultures is celebrated  in the streets of Kreuzberg. Expect lots of  people from different cultures dancing, eating and celebrating together. Expect live music, (interactive) street theatre and lots more. Every years highlight is the big parade on the 23rd of may. There is no admission fee!

8-13 june Berlin Air Show at Schönefeld Airport.

9-13 june DMY International Design Festival. During the day there are lectures, workshops, panel talks and performances. During the night one gets together at the parties!!

19th of June Christopher Street Day Berlin. Starts at Kurfürstendamm/Joachimsthaler straße. Grand Finale at Brandenburg Gate.

13-29 August Tanz im August. A spectacular modern dance festival. A part from lots of performances there are lectures and workshops being held aswell.

3 and 4 spetember the Pyronale! A match between the worlds greatest fireworks artists.

25th of september Inline Skating Marathon:  Starts at Straße der 17. juni. Most of the online skaters participating are hobby-skaters.

19-31 oktober Festival of lights For the sixth time, the FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS™ will turn Berlin into a sparkling metropolis with a firework of illuminations and events for two weeks from 13th to 24th October, 2010. World-famous historical landmarks and spots in Berlin, e.g. the Brandenburg Gate, the Television or Radio Tower will be staged impressively by means of light, events, projections and fireworks.

4-7 November. Jazzfest Berlin. Here you´ll find the creme de la creme of the international jazz-scene

9-14 November Interfilm Festival. A festival for short movies!

2-4 december Tanznacht Berlin. For the 6th time the Tanzfabrik Berlin presents the Dancenight. On these 3 days Curator Peter Stamer  shows a selection of performances of young berlin choregraph?

3.  A Vidab special with Oliver Deutschmann and Koljah at the T-room

For the first T Room Session of 2010, they are hosting the Vidab Crew infront of Oliver Deutschmann’s appearance this weekend at Berghain with sneak previews from Koljah’s upcoming release on the label.

Starting 18:00 till 21:00 at The T Room Christinenstrasse 27, Mitte Berlin

The session will air live also on Sweat Lodge Radio

Vidab is the brain child house label of Stephan Hill & Oliver Deutschmann releasing music by the duo and artists like Ed Davenport, Koljah, Gowentgone, Robin Drimalski, and Tomas Svensson, as well as remixes from Marcel Dettmann and Marcel Fengler to name a few. The label is releasing in parts at the moment a series of EP’s titled Camp Vidab, and are holding label nights regularly in Panorama Bar.

EastSeven Berlin Hostel featured in a local tvshow from RBB, television for Berlin and Brandenburg

Because of the New Years Eve all hostels, hotels and appartements in Berlin where booked out, also the EastSeven hostel. Lots of people from all over the world came to Berlin to celebrate a big new years eve party. on the 31st of december 2009 a RBB tv crew filmed at our hostel. They interviewed Nik at the reception, asking him about availability during new years eve.  And also they interviewed a couple of our guests at the lounge and hostel kitchen.

What to do in Berlin the first week of January?

Read on for some great insider recommendations for free and low budget events and activities in Berlin.

1. For a great start in the new year and in the new week, we have our Free Dinner Party again, tonight! There´s going to be delicious food and friendly travellers to hang out with. It´s free of charge, so don´t hesitate.  If your staying at the hostel meet up with us at 7pm in the lounge for another great evening of fun in Berlin!
2. Find out more about the Berlin Wall at the Berlin Wall Documentation Centre! It´s free of charge and within walking distance from our hostel. Opening hours- daily from 10am till 5 pm.
3. Go to the German Historical Museum, to see the exhibition: Strangers? Pictures of the other in Germany and France since 1871.
The image of the stranger always was part of the self-definition of nations and helpful to delimit to the external. The exhibition traces images of the other in the respective self-definitions of France and Germany against the background of the globalization. (daily 10a.m-6p.m.)

4. Pay a visit to the Sachsenhausen Memorial. Check here for adress and directions! Entry is FREE! But if you want to have a guided tour you pay a small amount of money.
5. White Trash Fast Food (number 9 at the back of our Flyer!)! Go here to eat great burgers and check out great rock´n´roll music. this friday Live: The Mokkers (garage/berlin), damage 6€.

6.Ooh it´s terribly cold in Berlin this week. So why not warm up a little at a sauna or a turkish bathing house.
There is a nice hamam in kreuzberg, klick here for a link. It´s for women only!
For a nice sauna closeby you could go to the olivin wellness sauna, at the schönhauser allee just around the corner from our hostel!
7.Organic Market on Kollwitzplatz, on thursday´s and saturdays!
On a late Saturday morning you should go to where the locals go – the farmer´s market on Kollwitzplatz – 200 Meters from EastSeven. Fresh organic vegetables, varieties of sausages and a lot more of savoir vivre. By your food of the season there, go back to the hostel and prepare it in our fancy self catering kitchen.
8. Sunday Fleamarket day in Berlin. Go to the Mauerpark Fleamarket, not far from the EastSeven Berlin Hostel. It´s one of the biggest fleamarkets, and really exciting. There is a live open air karaoke show.
9. Ping Pong Bar, DR. Pong. Nice for some action, drinking beer and playing table tennis. It´s fun. There is no entrance fee, and this cool bar is within walkin distance from our hostel. (number 5 at the back of our flyer)
10. Go on a Free Walking Tour. There are pick ups every day from our hostel at 12.45. 5hrs of sightseeing lead by our passionate and more than wonderful guides. The tour works on a pay what you think it’s worth basis so it’s always within your budget. Sights include Checkpoint Charlie, the Reichstag, The Wall, Brandenburger Tor, Bunker site and many more besides
