The romantic world of the Lucia Christmas Market invites you to the Kulturbrauerei for the tenth time in the year 2010.
The “Lucia Christmas Market“ takes place in the outdoor space in the two courtyards of the Kulturbrauerei in Berlin’s Prenzlauer Berg district.

The Kulturbrauerei, an area of 25,000 m², with its lovely ensemble of 20 buildings and six courtyards, is situated between Schönhauser Allee, Knaack, Sredzki and Danziger Straßes. The buildings are all connected – creating a brick wall with chimneys and distinctive towers in the corners. The richly decorated buildings of red and yellow brick with their casting pillars, dome vaults and stone ceilings represent the industrial architecture of the 19th century.

This beautiful building complex is home to the Lucia Christmas Market. With its picturesque setting, this market offers a very charming and romantic atmosphere and has become very popular with families. It offers a daily cultural program for everbody, on weekend afternoons for kids and invites the grown-ups to meet for a hot mulled red (and white) wine „Glühwein or Glög“. Named after Lucia, the Nordic goddess of light, the market is dedicated to the Scandinavian countries.

Everyone knows it. Everyone’s been there.
The trouble is, everyone has a different set of rules.
But what’s it all about anyway? Aren’t all modern day relationships a dysfunctional battlefield? A series of mind games? A struggle for status?
Oh, I know yours isn’t – but I bet you know of someone’s who’s is!
If so then come and chuckle contentedly at eight people who aren’t you make a mess of their lives in love
Or more precisely, the Game of Love: ‘Making the move’, ‘Elation’, ‘Sex’, ‘Argument’ then ‘Depression’. Sound familiar? Of course it does.

In physics the term ‘plasma’ describes a particular state of matter in which energy is readily conducted through a material – the fluid spaces of Plasma Studio’s architecture work by the same principle. Folding space into space, the architects draw landscapes into buildings, streets into facades, inside to outside. Transformative tectonics set spaces, planes and bodies into unforeseen relationships that challenge conventional topographies and spatial codes.
For the last 10 years the office, currently based in London, Southern Tyrol and Beijing, has been widely recognized as one of the leading international architecture and design practices of the emerging generation. From small scale installations to large scale master planning, Plasma Studio`s projects bear strongly the mark of a digital design process. Propelled by the partners’ academic research and teaching at the Architectural Association in London. Plasma Studio develops architectural solutions by mediating between the scales of topography & context on the one hand, and sensory & physical relationships on the other. Their holistic design process enables an elastic response to completely varied contextual conditions and assignments. The exhibition at the DAZ presents their characteristic approach within a jump in scale; from built projects in Europe to recent work-in-progress planning in China.

15 October to 28 November 2010

Opening ceremony 14 October, 7.00 pm, at the Berlinische Galerie

This fourth edition of the European Month of Photography Berlin presents itself as a festival in transition. This time the ‘month’ of photography lasts for six weeks, starting – in response to the rhythm of Berlin’s cultural autumn – in mid-October. The biggest change however is the experiment of confronting all participating institutions with a mandatory set theme. The objective was to have all the exhibitions and events focused on a single topic, so as to make the festival more prominent in the public eye and give it a higher profile.

‘Modern times, new pictures’ is the phrase that sums it all up – a theme focusing on photography as an instrument of modernisation. Museums and cultural institutions, galleries and exhibition organisers have been invited to dedicate their exhibitions to this modernising function of the photographic medium, taking different aspects into account. After all, it has long been a matter of general knowledge that photographs do more than just ‘reproduce reality’. What the camera registers, and the way in which the result is reproduced, is rather a matter of interpretation and so can be seen as the creation of new and additional realities. Several specific fields relating to this theme were proposed to participating institutions by way of example, and all these areas reappear in the festival in the form of historic, and – even more importantly – contemporary samples of the art.

Anyone who wishes can organise the website following these different thematic areas, or bring up a display of the outstanding highlights. For the first time the festival includes a central point – in the form of the Berlinische Galerie – one offering a wide range of events.

The curious visitor can expect to find pictures that are surprising and disturbing, controversial and simply breathtaking. The Fourth European Month of Photography Berlin 2010 is more than just a feast for the eye.

Nacht und Nebel is an ART and Cultural Festival and gives us an insight in the vivid and upcoming artscene in Neukölln.
You are curious what is on the menu? Count on dance, workshops, performances, theater, music, film etc. etc. There are all kinds of different exhibitions in the many ateliers, galleries bars and cafe´s in Neukölln. Nacht und Nebel starts at 6pm at the Schillerpalais, with a vernissage of `the Throwing` from Steffen Kasperavicius!

The difference to most of the Art-festivals is that during the Nacht & Nebel Night you as a visitor have the opportunity to talk with the different artists. Most of the anticipating artist live in Neukölln, and through their art they reflect on the social-problems in this Berlin neighbourhood.
In this way they pay an important contribution to the local community.
