For  a period of 4 weeks, from April the 26th till May the 24th, the Opernwerkstätten in Berlin Mitte turn into a big interactive playground.

An exciting interactive exhibition at a very interesting location! The Opernwerkstätten is kind of a magical place. This is where the decor and the costumes for the Berlin Staats Opera and the Komische Oper were once made. Now this spacious building serves as an unique event location for fashion shows, congresses, exhibitions and any other kind of events.

For the Photography Playground 12 international artists and international collectives created an unique interactive exhibition in an over 70000sqm spacious location.

The theme of the exhibition is ´space and art´ and it allows you as spectator to become an actor!

Where: Opernwerkstätten, Zinnowitzer Str. 9

When: From 26th of April till the 24th of May, daily from 11am till 7pm.

The entrance is free!!

Where to go to for live Music in Berlin?

A list of cool venues in Berlin!

If you want to go out and experience some live music in Berlin, but you don´t have a clue yet on where to go to? No worries, we have made a list of cool venues in Berlin. The places to be if you´re up for some fine tunes!

1. Badehaus Szlimpa
live music bar in Friedrichshain, located in a former GDR-bathhouse, where you can go to to experience all kinds of different music styles, from jazz to balkan. Entrance fee starts from 2€ on.
2. B-flat
One of the most beloved jazz clubs in Berlin, is the famous B-flat. And every Wednesday there are concerts for free.
Concerts usually start at 10pm.
The club  is within walking distance from the EastSeven Berlin Hostel, located in the Rosenthaler Straße 13, you can reach the pub within 20 minutes of walk. Enjoy listening to some fine acoustic jazz tunes
3. Antje Oeklesund
this bar, disco and concerthall looks like a ruin! but that´s just the concept of the place, it provides the place with an interesting atmosphere! For almost a decade now, this kind of out of the center located bar is a perfect place to go to if you like indie-rock music, besides that the place is kinda broken down it is really cosy!
4. Piano Bar van Gogh
Open daily from 6pm till late! There is daily live music, from jazz to blues. There is no entrance fee!
They serve all kinds of drinks and they make fantastic cocktails! And they have some nice paintings on the wall, I wonder what the name of the artist who painted them is :).
Where to find the piano bar? At Schiffbauerdamm 6-7! If you need help with getting there, please come ask us at the reception!
5. Lunchtime concerts at Berlin Philharmonic
Every Tuesday at Lunchtime, 1pm, there are concerts you can attend without paying any entrance fee for it.
This is a fantastic opportunity to have a delicious bite and listen to great music!!
The Berlin Philharmonic is located close to Potsdamer Platz. You can take the u2 from Senefelder Platz.

6. Yorkschlösschen
a really famous place, located in Kreuzberg and first opened its doors 100 years ago! It started as a coffee house for solders, but now its a popular venue for jazz and blues music.
There are jam sessions  every Sunday at 14.00.

Our top 5 of boats to rent!

Spring has finally started yeah!How much we all longed for this to happen :)!
Now it is the right time to fully enjoy the potential of good weather! Go outside, hang out in the parks, eat ice cream, cycle, jog, enjoy a coffee in the sun, go sightseeing, sit in our garden, wear t-shirt and shorts,…., and go on a boat tour or rent a boat and explore the city of Berlin from the water, it is a totally different perspective, and I am sure you will enjoy it. If you want to do a small sightseeing tour through the city centre just go to the museum island! Here you find, alongside the spree, several boat companies offering tours that usually take up 1 hour of your time! If you want to rent your own private boat, read this blog and find out where to get out on the water in Berlin!

1. Rent a raft!
At the Boat rental Rübezahl, located at the Lake Müggelsee in Berlin you can rent beautiful rafts for up to 8 people. The Müggelsee is a beautiful lake, where you can easily spend several hours on or in the water!
For the raft you don´t need a special licence. If you like you can rent a barbeque too.
It is easy to get here by public transport, ask us at the reception if you need help.
2. Spreecab
you can rent this small water cab that offers space for up to 9 people from the Spreekreuz, Charlottenburg. For one hour you pay 65€, including the Cab driver! Lay back and enjoy cruising on the river spree!
3. Hauptstadtfloß

this is a raft build completely out of wood, it offers space for up to 45 people and costs 900€ for 2,5 hours. The raft is located at Rummelsburger Bucht, Rummelsburg. Check their website and reserve in advance!
4. Salonschiff Ms. Marple
This ship is a classic boat from the 1930´s! You can take this ship and ride along the river Spree through Berlin. Ms. Marples offers space to 27 people, and the boat can take you wherever you please to go.
the boat is waiting for you at the Rummelsburger Bucht, opposite to the Treptower Park.  If you need help to find out how to get there, please come ask us at the reception.
5. Grill-Boot-Berlin, grill & chill
this boat is designed with a grill in the middle, so you can float on the water while preparing sausages for lunch!
A unique experience, that costs around 45€ per hour. You don´t need a license for this round shaped boat! make sure to reserve in advance!

I don´t know about you but we can´t wait for the summer and the nice weather to finally drive the winter away! With this blog post we would like to inform you on some cool events and festivals that are taking place in Berlin this summer. We are already getting in the mood just by thinking of it :)!

From music festivals to art fairs, for everyone there is something he or she likes! read on and plan your trip to Berlin straight away! if you are looking for a cozy and clean hostel in Berlin, you are welcome to stay at our place!

 

1. Berlin Lacht

International Street Theater Festival at Alexander Platz. Takes place from the 1st of August till the 18th.
This is street theater at his best! Expect the unexpected!
There will be acrobatic, live music, clowns and a lot of more different kinds of performances!

this festival is there to make you smile and laugh!

2. Karneval der Kulturen, from the 17th till the 20th of May

The carnival of cultures is the festival of the year, and attracts lots of tourists and Berliner.

It is a festival to celebrate cultural diversity. People form all over the globe ghet together to try dishes from different countries, listening to bands from all over the world and simply just enjoy the great atmosphere. The highlight is the big Karneval Parade, that takes place on May the 19th!

3. Christopher Street Day

This is the pride parade of the year! There will be more than half a million people present at the Christopher Street Day parade, demonstrators and spectators.  It is a very diverse crowd at the parade, gay and straight, young and old, from all over the world. One thing they have in common, they are pleading fair play for diversity!

It is a political parade but also a really big party, so make sure to be there!  It takes place on the 22nd of June.

4. Fete de la musique

this vibrant music festival is celebrating the start of the summer ever year in Berlin, with a lot of live music all through the city!

This is thé festival for live music, all around town!
this amazing event takes place every year, on the 21st of June, the day the summer begins…..
Special about this festival is, it´s totally for free and really all around the city! It is an open air festival, a lot of different bands with different musical styles will perform and turn the city into one big live open air stage!

Close to the EastSeven Hostel you will find the fete de la musique at the Mauerpark, at Bassy Cowboy club and ZumDrittenman (kollwitzstrasse/sredzkistrasse)
The festival starts at 4pm, and will approximately end at 10pm….after this there will be after parties at many different locations….fete de la nuit!

5. 48 Stunden Neukölln, from the 14th of June till the 16th

a really inspiring and fun art and cultural festival that takes place in the neighborhood Neukölln!
The Festival takes place from June 14th till June the 16th, and there will be a lively and diverse program.

What can you expect?? There will be live performances, arts, readings, theater and dance. The Festival is the biggest festival of arts in Berlin, so make sure that you don´t miss out on this.

What is so cool about this festival is that the venues where it takes place are diverse and all through the neighborhood, in private homes, small galleries, in pubs,  neighborhood centers and parks.

Organic food in Berlin. Where to shop and eat with good conscious. A top 5!

We have made a top 5 of places in Berlin, all close by the hostel in Prenzlauer berg, where you can get the finest bio & organic products in town!

1. LPG Supermarket

This organic supermarket is one of the biggest stores in Berlin that sells 100% organic & bio- food and other products.
You can find everything you need here. They have a big cosmetic department as well. Furthermore they sell sandwiches, and you can go to their organic cafeteria, where you can get  yourself a delicious lunch.
The LPG supermarket is really close by the hostel, not more than 2 minutes by foot! Here is the address, Kollwitzstr. 17, 10405 Berlin.
2. Maja´s Deli
for fantastic vegan take-away, or to  eat right there! They have all kinds of cakes and pies, but also salads, soups and lasagne! You will love it! The place is run by to vegan Ladies who prepare all the dishes with fresh ingredients. Go there and try for yourself, you won´t be disappointed. You´ll find Majas Deli at the Pappelallee 11, 10437 Berlin.
3. vegan supermarkt VEGANZ
there is a supermarket in Berlin, not so far from Eastseven, that sells vegan and vegetarian products only! Now how cool is that?! You´d be surprised how many good, delicious and healthy vegan products are available.
Have a look at the VEGANZ; Schivelbeiner Str. 34 , buy yourself some fresh and delicious vegan products and then come back to the hostel kitchen and prepare a great dinner :)!

4. Enten und Katzen – Bio, Deli & Café

this is a small local organic shop with a cafe too. Go here to shop for food and cosmetic products or just come here to drink an organic coffee or tea and sit on their nice terrace outside in the sun! This nice local bio store is located at the Winstrasse 58. 10405 Berlin.

5.Vegan Fast Food @ Vego-Food-World
this is a vegetarian/vegan fast food restaurant! Always thought that as a vegetarian you could´nt eat fast food? Luckily this is not true!
At the Vego Food World they have burgers and home made fries, salads, wraps and pizzas. Yummie yummie! Located at the Lychenerstr. 63, 10437 Berlin, it is within walking distance from our Hostel :)!

 

At the hostel, you have the opportunity to be a cook and prepare a vegetarian or vegan meal for the other guests. It´s the EastSeven supper club where you can star as a cook, and you can get a night for free in a dormitory! It is always great fun to cook and eat with other people!
