Street Art Berlin

Choose your personal guide for your Berlin trip! We have listed up some great companies and tours!

1. Brewers walking tours

Go on the Brewers Free Walking Tour. There are pick ups every day from our hostel at 12.25!!! Around 4 hrs of sightseeing lead by  passionate and more than wonderful guides. The tour works on a pay what you think it’s worth basis, so it’s always within your budget. Sights include Checkpoint Charlie, the Reichstag, The Wall, Brandenburger Tor, Bunker site and many more besides! You don´t need to sign up or something, just show up in time! For more information we will be glad to help you at the EastSeven front desk!

2.  A Sachsenhausen Tour by Mosaic Tours

Their comprehensive tours delve deeply not only into all facets of the Sachsenhausen facility in particular, but also how the Nazis rose to power in Germany, why the Nazis persecuted the Jews and other groups, and how Germany is dealing with its past today.

Led by highly educated guides, the focus is to provide relevant historical analysis and answer questions while providing the freedom for visitors to develop their own impressions of this powerful memorial. The guides are always on-hand for questions and additional information for the duration of the tour; you will also, however, have the opportunity to explore the vast memorial at your own pace and focus on areas of particular interest.

The tour takes place on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Meeting point is at Alexander PLatz, between TV Tower and the Train station. They meet at 10 AM! The tour costs 15€, 12€ if you are a student.

Cold War Bunker Berlin

3. Alternative Berlin Tours

Go on the famous Graffiti and street art tour and experience Berlin beyond the major sights!

Every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday! Starts at 12PM

Meeting point at Alexander Platz next to the Starbucks entrance. Costs 15€, Including a street art workshop

4. Bike tours

there are many bike-tours to choose from! We recommend the Berlin on Bike tours, that starts from the Kulturbrauerei, just around the corner from our Hostel in Prenzlauer Berg. They offer different kinds of tours. Most popular are the Berlins Best tour and the Wall tour. The tours last for about 3,5 Hours and costs 14€ plus 5€ for hiring the bike.

5. Berlin Underground

This is meant literally! Berlin underground tours take you under ground! For instance you can visit a Bunker from WWII,  the Flak Towers, a cold war Bunker or a “mother and child bunker”.

descend with your Berlin Underground guide in a different time! It makes history very vivid, an unique way to see things from a different perspective.

The tours are being held in different languages, check their website or ask us for help at the EastSeven Reception!

We wish you a wonderful stay in Berlin!

Ask at the reception about german sauna habits, not that you will be surprised :) They have gents and ladies only times as well, if you prefer those.

Live to Tape.

The Mike Steiner Collection at Hamburger Bahnhof
1 February 2011 – 8 January 2012

From the beginning of the 1970s, gallerist, collector and artist Mike Steiner was one of the earliest proponents of the young medium of video art in West Germany. Inspired by several trips to New York, where he came into contact with developments in video and action art, he opened the Studiogalerie in the vicinity of Berlin’s Kurfürstendamm in 1976. The gallery soon became one of the defining exhibition spaces for Berlin media artists, who had received little attention before, as well as presenting international pioneers in video art and performance.

The exhibition “Live to Tape” presents a selection of works from the Mike Steiner Collection in the Nationalgalerie holdings spanning the years 1972-1985. It traces directions in early video art; in particular, the relationship between live performance and video is brought into focus as in taped endurance performances that test the physical limits of the body by Marina Abramović, Charlemagne Palestine and Ulrike Rosenbach. Also on view is a group of works from the rarely shown action Hotel Room Event, organized by Fluxus artist Ben Vautier and Mike Steiner. During the event fifteen artist videos were taped in different rooms of the Hotel Steiner. Another highlight is Ulay’s spectacular action There is a Criminal Touch to Art (1976), documenting his temporary theft of the Carl Spitzweg painting The Poor Poet (1839) from the Neue Nationalgalerie.

Artists included in the exhibition: Marina Abramović, Cornelia (jetzt Kali) Balcerowiak, Wojciech Bruszewski, Valie Export, Jochen Gerz, K.H. Hödicke, Dorothy Iannone, Joan Jonas, Raimund Kummer, Joan La Barbara, Charlemagne Palestine, Friederike Pezold, Lil Picard, Ulrike Rosenbach, Mike Steiner, Endre Tót, Ulay, Ben Vautier, Helmut Wietz.
