1. Berlinale Festival!

This year it is already the 62nd edition of the Berlinale international Filmfestival. The Festival starts on Wednesday the 9th of February and will go for 10 days.
In these 10 days their will be 395 new films broadcasted, all of this films are world premiers!! And of course a lot of filmstars will visit the German capitol!!

Since 1997, the Berlin Underworlds Association has been offering regular tours into some of the most important underground structures in the city. The Mokkers sind eine All-Girl-Band aus Berlin. Seit ihrer Gründung im Jahre 2007 spielen sie sich beeinflusst vom Sound der 60er Jahre von der Garage hinauf in die Herzen dieser Stadt. The Purcells:
Going into pop 60’s, psychedelic direction lead by inspired melodies, The Purcells deliver powerful rock’n’roll on any of their appearance and laid down on the vinyl, 9 of their gems, as a Mini-Album dealing with love issues, smell of females, generation gaps, wet dreams, romanticism, hard times, guess games and wonder cats kingdom.

1945 – 1968. The Collection. Neue Nationalgalerie

After ‘Modern Times. The Collection 1900-1945′, the second instalment in the showing of the National Gallery’s collection of 20th-century art will go on display in November 2011.

Germany’s ‘economic miracle’ and the building of the Berlin Wall, the Cuban Crisis and Vietnam War, Sputnik and Apollo, Kennedy and Mao-stark contrasts, entrenched positions and clear fronts mark the eventful years between 1945 and 1968. Fine art from this period was significantly influenced by the atmosphere of the ‘Cold War’ and the political ideologies connected with it. In art, two major paths essentially separated East and West, the figurative and abstraction. The West held aloft the open structure of abstract or ‘informal’ art as a symbol of freedom. And it was certainly no coincidence that the pop art that followed it arose in the major capitals of the West, where the phenomena of mass production and a rising tide of consumer culture were everywhere to be seen. In the Eastern Block, by contrast, socialist realism became the prevailing trend and a defining basis for all developments in the art that came after it. In all of this, the individual became the point by which all things were measured, artists made the ‘human condition’ the core focus of their work.

Under the title ‘Divided Heaven’ (echoing the novel by Christa Wolf), the New National Gallery introduces us to the key figures from this epoch. In its focus, however, the exhibition deliberately looks beyond barriers, geopolitical and artistic, and concentrates instead on universal artistic ideas, held by both camps at once. At the heart of ‘Divided Heaven’ stand the international disparities: the juxtaposition of styles and art forms, the contemporaneity of the non-contemporaneous.

Berlin’s premier techno club, housed in a former power generation plant near the Berlin Ostbahnhof train station. The building is enormous — the dancefloor 18 metres high and there’s room for around 1500. The main design elements are steel and concrete. The first room at the entrance near the cloakroom displays a 20-30 square meter black & white painting of the artist Piotr Nathan. On the upper floor, the Panorama Bar contains a large-format painting by Wolfgang Tillmans.

The Lucia Christmas Market takes places at the courtyard of the Kulturbrauerei, a former brewery. It is really closeby the Hostel in Berlin, Prenzlauer Berg.With its picturesque setting, this market offers a very charming and romantic atmosphere. Named after Lucia, the Nordic goddess of light, the market is dedicated to the Scandinavian countries.

3. Organic Christmas Market

Another organic Christmas Market is located also not very far from EastSeven Hostel. Wonderful ecologically produced, fair trade gifts are on sale in the pleasant atmosphere of the market on all four Advent weekends. Well-known environmental protection organisations present their nature-protection projects. Creature comforts are also provided: all delicacies are organic and with every cup of mulled wine consumed, a tree is planted in the tropics – which helps climate protection.  4. Christmas Market at the Opernpalais

A nostalgic Christmas market takes place between the Staatsoper and Opernpalais. Craftspeople, confectioners, almond and chestnut roasters, and candle and lantern makers offer their wares in more than 200 wooden booths. There is also a crib with real animals and a wooden horse carousel. The much loved Christmas market on the boulevard Unter den Linden twinkles and shines. The illuminated Palais and the Staatsoper Berlin provide the nostalgic Christmas market with an appropriate backdrop. A coachman also invites you to take a pre-Christmas carriage drive through Berlin’s “old centre”. 5. Christmas Market at the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtniskirche
Every year during Advent it smells of roasted almonds, hot cocoa and mulled wine around the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church. Because that’s when more than 170 craft and Christmas market stands are set up around the historical church in the centre of City West. Christmas fairy lights surround the elaborately decorated Breitscheidplatz. The right present for everyone – no empty promise here. You’ll find everything here, from Christmas decorations and ornaments to toys and delicate accessories. And refreshments are also taken care of: the range extends from cocoa, mulled wine and punch, plus glazed fruit up to grilled sausages. 6. Winter World at Potsdamer Platz Christmas market:

Lots of lights, handicrafts, music and delicacies ensure a reflective atmosphere at the Christmas Market at Potsdamer Platz. Alongside the handicrafts market along Alte Potsdamer Straße and an ice rink, the Winter World also offers fast fun on the largest mobile toboggan run in Europe, which is 12 metres high and 70 metres long. And anyone still looking for more sporting activity after the toboggans can skate on the 500 square metre open air rink. At this market, everything is possible! You can even buy clothes and jewelry here, also there are often musicians standing at the ends of the market, playing their songs!! Always a great atmosphere here!!

if you are staying over the weekend you absolutely can´t miss out on the mauerpark
fleamarket. Held every Sunday from 7 till 16 it is the place where hip & young Berlin and
Berlin-visitors get together. Not only looking for bargains, also it is a social happening where
friends meet over a bratwurst, or watching one of the many spontaneous concerts from
musicians coming from all over the globe.
4. The new synagoge @ Rykestrasse. It is Germanys biggest synagoge!
This cavernous synagogue is today the largest extant synagogue in
Germany. The handful of worshippers
who gather here on Shabbat, in fact, use a small side chapel, and
the main synagogue is used only for festivals. It is a
beautiful synagogue that retains much of the original interior.
Because of the synagogue’s location in a courtyard surrounded by
housing, it survived Kristallnacht relatively unscathed, and by luck it
was not struck by war-time bombing.

Berlin Wall Documentation Centre

5. Berlin Wall documentation centre
this documentation centre, completely free of charge, is located at the Bernauer Strasse.
It is really not far from your hostel in Prenzlauer Berg, it is approximately a 10 minute walk.
At this documentation center there have  a Tower you should really climb up, because  from above you have a clear view over the berlin wall
(small piece maintained) and the death stripe.
Learn more about Berlins History by paying a visit to this informative little museum.

6. Kulturbrauerei
This huge complex of night-time hangouts originally housed Berlins Schultheiss brewery for more than 150 years. By night the Culture Brewery turns into a popular meeting point for determined drinkers, eager to explore the buildings wealth of bars, clubs, cafes and restaurants, or just hang out in the huge courtyard.
7. Dr. pong
the table tennis bar in berlin. don´t think it is a sportbar ´cause it isn´t. A lot of youngsters meet here to get together! There is nothing more fun than playing table tennis with over 20 people at once! Beside that there are dj´s playing great electronic music! It is a great hangout!
8. Kastanienallee

Dubbed Casting Alley by the locals, this long strip of little cafes, indie fashion designers trading their wares and tasty restaurants is the ideal place to hang out and watch the surprisingly large number of beautiful faces walk by at all hours
9. Zionskirchplatz
Life in a resistance group fighting either the Nazis or East German
government was often a dangerous affair. Finding somewhere quiet and warm to hold your secret
discussions therefore being a number one priority = PBergs 19th century Church of Zion. It is now
surrounded by small cafes and restaurants.
10. Weinerei!
great cozy place, it´s mainly students you will find here. getting together to drink really
great wine and philosophize in a relaxed livingroom-feel atmosphere.
the concept of the weinerei is quite unique. You ´buy´ a glass, for one euro, and then you
can fill and refill it as often as you like. Also there are little snacks the accompany the
wine. when you leave you can pay whatever you think it was worth.
Don´t go here to late, when the wine is out, its over and out!!

Traveling on a budget? Book a cheap bed in Berlin  at EastSeven and join in on one of the dinnerparties!
Although Berlin is not too expensive when it comes to eating out, still it is always nice to
safe money when you are traveling on a budget.
For over a year already, we started with the concept of free dinner parties. At first, only on
Mondays. A short description on how it works.  Everyone who is staying at the hostel can sign up for the dinner.  Also, if you love cooking too, you
can join in, which is always a lot of fun! Our cooks usually start preparing the dinner around 6pm, so just come to the kitchen and have a look what is going on.

During the dinner party we have special prices for drinks at the reception, meaning happy
hour for all our fantastic beers, not for one hour but at least for four hours.

The idea of cooking and eating togehter was to help travelers, not only to safe some
money, but also to get in touch with fellow travelers. Not seldom do people get together
after the dinner for a night of clubbing.
After the great succes of our Monday dinner parties we started cooking for our guests on Wednesdays as well!

What´s next? Maybe wel will be organizing more of these events in future we will keep you posted here!! Enjoy your stay in Berlin.

1. If it´s a rainy day go visit some Museums!!

Check out the Museum Island where you can find the Pergamon Museum, The Old Museum, the old national gallery and the Bode Museum. If you are up for more than 2 museums, buy a museum daypass, that will safe
you some money! Also worth a visit is the Berlin Cathedral, located also on the  Museum Island.
2. Check out LIVE MUSIC at JOE`S BAR
This small bar is just around the corner. It´s great for enjoying live music, in an intimate
atmosphere. On Saturday night you can go here to experience some nice indie-pop music.

3.Go to a cool local BAR!

Another great small local bar, located not far from the EastSeven Berlin Hostel is the
FIRE BAR, Krausnickstr. 5 , 10115 Berlin. Always a great stop for dancing and drinking.

4.Festival of lights
This is a highlight, every autumn again. All major buildings and Sights are being
illuminated in the most fantastic manners. It is at these nights, that you can catch a lot of
hobby-photographers strawling throuhout the city making fantastic pictures, experimenting
with light. This is ofcourse for every tourist the opportunity to make an unique picture of for
instance brandenburg gate, to show your family and friends at home. They will be
impressed .

it is so easy to do, you don´t need to go on an organized pub crawl just follow the following
steps and your night will be a night to never forget:
1. check out the eastseven hostel lounge to gather some peops to join you!
2. choose a particular neighbourhood/street/area for the crawl. ofcourse you can also hop
neighbourhoods but its easier not to.
3. go from pub to pub, discover new pubs, or go with the great tipps of the eastseven staff
members
4. That’ s all it takes, easy, isn´t it?!! Njoy!
10. Hangover breakfast/brunch. Take your time and enjoy breakfast or brunch.

Breakfast in Berlin is usually possible till 5pm! So no need to get up early . A really nice place for
breakfast, close to the hostel, is the cafe EntwederOder, at Oderbergerstraße 15.

in the afternoon: Go on a wonderful brewers walking tour!! they leave at 12.45 from our hostel , The tour is free of charge, but tip based .
in the evening: go partying!! For instance at Bassy´s cowboy club.

this club is amazing!! They even have a restaurant and make delicious Fast FOOD. Try their burgers, even their veggie burgers are great!!
